It's not strictly Nelson, but in Blenheim I found this sign. Ducks are really wild, and that's why we have to shoot them; though kids can get equally wild, we pray they grow out of it.

No zebra there to let the ducks cross the road in a safety way ?
Here is the explanation.
City ducks must be more educated and crossing on the zebra. Ours are country ducks so crossing wherever they like!?
This is funny. We used to have a "Goats Crossing" sign on the freeway here. Wild goats used to cross the freeway to get to the grass on the other side.

It reminds me of the deer crossing signs around here where it looks like the deer are dancing, or at least walking on their rear legs.
