From the Nelson Public Art & Sculpture Walks (March 2006) map: "Renovations to the original airport building added local art, including stainless steel panels with rock inserts by Darryl Frost. The panels, simulating riverbeds and featuring eddy spirals at the ends, required 52% to be holes for accurate wind distribution. The rocks in the piece were collected from around the region." This theme is repeated in the front entrance of the terminal building.

Thanks for visiting, everybody. Our airport, like many others, is right by the water, so I understand the wind was a big factor. I'd be very interested to know how they came up with the %, though.
It's always nice to see this kind of public place has a bit of art piece.
It's pretty cool, isn't it. The metal panel is actually quite long, extending on both sides of the terminal building. I'd have to stand in the middle of the road to get the whole thing in, but I might try it some time.
