This was the best photo in a series of four posts about the oil rig that visited Nelson. The original post of this image was on 17 July. The rig first first appeared on 31 May; subsequently it was on 9 August and 27 September. Following the last post, it was just outside the bay still visible from Rocks Road because the weather condition was still bad; apparently these rigs require three or four days of calm water to move on safely. The rig has not returned so I guess it's finally really gone.Happy New Year, everyone!

He is an American expat working in Paris and was on holiday here in Seattle. He is planning a trip to NZ in 2009, and I hope he will get down your way. excellent image, i am always drawn by stark lines against a bright backgroung. many f my own shots are of a similar feel.
